Southern

Southern started life in the late 1970’s as a recording studio, and became a label through John Loder’s work with the seminal anarcho-pacifist punk band Crass – a relationship which exists to this day. Throughout the 1980’s and 90’s,  Southern operated as a distributor and label office, helping labels like Dischord, Touch & Go, Wax Trax,  On-U Sound, BYO, Pusmort, Alchemy, Constellation, Ipecac, Kranky, Southern Lord, and Neurot establish themselves in Europe.  Southern Records has formed other partnerships with artists and labels in its many imprints, which include Bluurg Records (Subhumans, Citizen Fish), Outer Himalayan (Rudimentary Peni) and Wrong Records (No Means No, Hanson Brothers).

Today, Southern Records is a small, completely independent label with a strong roster of unique artists and a very deep catalogue of well over one hundred releases.
